Since 1996 all new lawyers licensed in Texas are required by the Supreme Court of Texas to complete a four-hour professionalism course entitled A Guide to the Basics of Law Practice not later than twelve (12) months after being licensed. Please refer to the date on your bar card as your license date. No other course can be substituted to fulfill this requirement. Those attorneys not in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order will be suspended.
A live course is offered several times throughout the year in Dallas, Austin, and Houston. It is strongly recommended that newly licensed attorneys take the live course. This course qualifies for 4 hours ethics and participatory MCLE credit. Law students are welcome to attend and will receive MCLE credit for attending after they are licensed.
